Mattress Accessory and Moving Checklist for New College Students, Part 2

In part one of this two-part blog, we went over a few of the most important mattress accessories when it comes to college students moving into the dorms for the first time. While such buildings generally provide mattresses to residents, they typically require students to bring their own sheets, pillows and other bedding accessories, areas that should be treated with care.

At 2 Brothers Mattress, we have a wide array of such mattress accessories to go along with our numerous mattress choices. We stock everything from bed sheets to mattress protectors, pillows and many others, ensuring our clients have access to everything they need for a great, consistent sleep. In today’s part two, we’ll go the extra mile and leave any impending college students with a full-on packing checklist for before they leave home, including both mattress and bedding areas plus several others to keep in mind.

Bedroom and Bedding Areas

Some of the top mattress, bedroom and bedding items to ensure you pack with you, depending on the specific needs of your dorm:

  • Mattress protector and/or mattress topper
  • Bed sheets and comforter
  • Pillows and pillowcases (even if the dorm provides its own pillows, many students choose to bring their personal favorites instead)
  • Bed risers – for cases where dorm beds are lower to the ground than your sleeping preference, these help raise it up
  • Bed frame – in certain rare situations, dorms may require you to bring your own bed frame, but this is not common

Personal Items

Some other general items that will be essential in the dorm environment:

  • Shower caddy – a small carrying case or tote bag that can hold toiletries, hair products and other related items for use in public, shared bathroom spaces
  • Tissues, toilet paper and paper towels – do not assume dorms will stock these properly, as many do not
  • Medical/First Aid kit

Storage

Life can get messy pretty fast for students living outside the home for the first time, so it’s important to think about a few basic storage items as well:

  • Trash can
  • Hangers
  • Storage bins or general organizers
  • Plastic bags or laundry bags
  • Suitcase or duffle bags for trips

Culinary Items

With no more mom around to cook dinner every night, college students are responsible for many of their own meals. It’s good to have the following items in the dorm room:

  • Plates and silverware
  • Bowls, cups and other similar items
  • Mini-fridge
  • Dish soap and towels
  • Coffee maker for those who drink coffee

Desk and Related Elements

Finally, don’t forget some basic items for your desk and workspace:

  • Laptop, headphones and other tech items
  • Chargers and surge protector/power strip
  • Office supplies like scissors, paper and others
  • Desk lamp or other light source
