22 Feb Quality Winter Sleep: Bed Frame, Accessories, Exercise
In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some basic tips on how to maintain quality sleep during the winter. Some people struggle with this during the colder part of the year, whether due to temperature, shorter days or some other reasoning, but there are plenty of approaches you can take to ensuring you get great sleep this winter.
At 2 Brothers Mattress, we’re happy to offer clients throughout Utah a wide selection of our quality mattresses, adjustable beds and other accessories to help promote the best sleep possible throughout the year. In addition to ensuring you have the best possible mattress setup, which we went over in part one of our series, here are some additional tips for improving your sleep this winter if you’re having issues.
Consider Frame and Accessories
The mattress itself isn’t the only component of your bed that can affect your sleep experience, so it’s important to consider the frame and any accessories you might be using. For example, if your mattress is on an old frame with widely-spaced slats, it may not hold its place in the ideal sleeping position once you get in bed.
You should also think about certain sleep accessories you might have lying around your bed, such as heavy blankets or comforters that add to the weight of the mattress and alter how you sleep. By using lighter covers and replacing older accessories with newer versions, you can help improve your comfort level while also giving you access to additional benefits like better airflow, lower energy consumption and other options.
Get Proper Exercise
For some people, the shorter days and colder temperatures that come with winter lead to a decrease in exercise, but doctors recommend that people get at least 20 minutes of exercise on most days of the week. Even though it might not seem like you need to do much during the winter, some experts say that aerobic exercises are even more important when you’re outside less often — and getting regular exercise can also help boost your mood and relieve tension, which helps make sleep more restful.
Adjusting Sleep Environment
Finally, there might be a number of techniques you can use to change your sleep environment with the seasons. For instance, another layer of covers is often appropriate during the winter, and on the other side of things you could opt for lighter blankets on hotter nights. You should also think about using a fan or heater to add ambient noise and increase airflow during colder months, and while it might seem counterintuitive, you can even try turning off your home’s thermostat in favor of your ceiling fan if you’re struggling to stay cool during warmer nights.
